I needed your help this week (J31-A5)

This week’s snapshots:

So.

This is a reminder that I don’t write these as postcards (no response required), I write these as letters… some response required! I needed help because it had been 4 weeks since anyone had written me back.

The thing is, I’m out on the road and away from all of my friends and family for weeks at a time - and this summer has been extra terrible; I slept in my own bed for like, 3 nights out of the 31 days of July. August was scheduled to be the same way (though with some vacations planned in there, so family and friend time guaranteed ;).

I love writing for writing’s sake, but I need connection more than I need to process my thoughts with words. All of the bold questions are designed to give you and I something to talk about, and be found quickly - does it work?

Not nearly as well as I would imagine. I guess readers were thinking they were rhetorical, or hypothetical, or just thinking points and didn’t hear me legitimately asking them. And that’s fine; but very much not the point of these words.

I don’t ask that you respond to my 5-paragraphs with 5 more paragraphs from you - but I do ask that you let me know what comes to mind or if you have more questions as a result of my questions and ESPECIALLY if you have a better take on the issues I write about :)

Anyways, I was in Phoenix this week and I legitimately “cooked” my soup by leaving it in the truck dashboard for 4 hours. The soup was too hot to eat immediately, and the Tupperware was too hot to use bare hands :/ BOO PHOENIX, WHY YOU SO HOT?

Look, I know the climate was bound to change anyways, but working under ceilings getting beaten by 112 degree sunshine is pretty compelling evidence of change and I Do. Not. Like. It.

Thanks to everyone who offered to help and respond more regularly! The nice thing is that there are plenty of humans reading, so if you respond to 1/4 letters, then I still get to experience meaningful connection as a result of these words :)

Do you like postcards? Do you prefer letters? What ways do you manage long-distance connections?

Let me know,

—Beth
